Understanding the numbers
The Stay or Go score is a weighted composite across 8 dimensions of return readiness. Each dimension is scored 0-100, then weighted by importance. The result is a single number from 0 (not ready) to 100 (ready to go).
The 8 dimensions
- Financial Readiness (25%): Savings rate, savings progress, emergency fund coverage
- Relocation Budget (15%): % of one-time relocation costs already saved
- Cost-of-Living Gap (10%): Realistic understanding of COL difference between current and target city
- Income Plan (15%): Post-return income source identified and quantified
- Debt Status (10%): Will foreign debt be cleared before return?
- Housing Plan (10%): Clear housing arrangement with budget
- Family Readiness (10%): Family obligations mapped and planned
- Psychological Timing (5%): Recent visit, local network, planning depth
Score bands
- 0–30: Not Ready Yet — Fill the diagnostic calculators to understand your starting point.
- 31–55: Planning Stage — Your savings and income planning need work before setting a return date.
- 56–75: Getting Close — Address the top 3 priorities above to move into 'Ready' territory.
- 76–90: Ready to Plan the Move — set a return date
- 91–100: Go! — book the flight
How to use your score
Don't obsess over the exact number — look at the dimension breakdown. If your total is 62 but your Housing Plan dimension is at 20%, that's your clear next step: fill the Housing Budget calculator, decide rent/buy/build, set a budget. The score improves as you fill gaps.
